Message from Euroclinic Athens' Chief Executive Officer

"When we opened the Euroclinic in 1998, we had a vision: to create a complete, flexible and affordable healthcare system that would stand out for its quality of service. However, for a private healthcare system to be complete it must, on the one hand, offer a full range of services and, on the other, be accessible to the broad public. Today, following five years of operation, we are pleased to say our goals have been met. We are equipped with three clinics, 308 treatment beds, 21 intensive care beds, a remarkably broad range of services at all levels and cutting-edge medical equipment. Needless to say our purpose is to ensure direct and immediate access to our facilities, prompt diagnosis and effective treatment.

Euroclinic Athens is a top-quality general treatment clinic staffed by excellent scientists and backed by a modern infrastructure and the latest in medical technology. Our Quality Control Indicators are on a par with the most renowned hospitals abroad, for example, the average period of hospitalisation at Euroclinic Athens is three days. This confirms both the high quality of medical services provided and reflects cost-conscious care. The clinic has a 1:2 nursing staff/patient ratio and the waiting time for surgery and diagnostics has been reduced to zero. Finally, 92% of our clinic's patients have expressed their complete satisfaction at the care they have received and have gone on to recommend us to third parties.

Athens Clinic, backed by a long history of success in the ophthalmological department, has been fully refurbished and now operates as a modern general treatment clinic. The Athens Clinic also has agreements with all public healthcare funds, thus giving, even people who do not have private health insurance, access on their insurance fund to high-quality healthcare without delays and waiting lists in a comfortable environment that boosts the healing process.

The Children's Euroclinic is the first exclusively pediatric private clinic in Greece. It is an independent clinic in its own right and not just a branch of a regular clinic for adults. This factor is pivotal in helping children keep a positive outlook. The clinic's infrastructure is unprecedented by Greek standards. Designed by specialists in the field of pediatric care, it is structured along modern perceptions of specialised care, putting children at ease and allowing them to overcome their healthcare problems faster. Before designing our own unit, we visited several respected children's hospitals around the world, examined their infrastructures, equipment and administrative structures. We selected the best aspects of these and adapted them to the needs of our unit.
Equipment is one of the most important factors in a modern-day hospital. We invest in new technology constantly. This helps us to make on-going improvements in our diagnosis, intervention and treatment potential. This year we replaced out (only five-year-old) Magnetic Resonance Imagining scanner with a new generation MRI. The updated model is capable of running 41 accurate, high-definition diagnostic tests in a shorter period of time than the older one and also offers new options, such as cardiac morphology, blood-flow studies and filmed observation of the heart's activities, heart angiographies, etc.

But, the real difference in a clinic is made by its staff; its doctors, nursing staff and administration. Patients should not be seen as mere customers. We have a duty to respect their pain and meet their needs. We made a strategic decision to create flexible structures in our clinics that permit us to be more effective, exercise better control of our operational costs, have simpler and speedier procedures, restrict the time lapse between tests significantly, and be able to respon to patients' needs more rapidly. This flexibility is what ensures that we can focus on giving personal care in a pleasant, friendly environment."

Polly Zisopoulou, Chief Executive Officer, Euroclinic Athens
